Junior Events
The Astronomical Society of Harrisburg's Junior Liaison coordinates events designed specifically for Students of all grade levels. The events, which are open to the public, will be held in the Asper Administration Building of the Edward Naylor Observatory, which is located 2 miles northwest of Lewisberry off of Route 382 and Brenneman Drive at 670 Observatory Drive.

Junior Events occur regardless of weather. The beginning of each event features a program which may include speakers, videos, demonstrations, and more. The membership of ASH invites students of all ages to attend. If you are a student who can drive, directions to the observatory are on this website. If you are a parent, we invite you to expose your student to the wonderful world of astronomy. Exposing them to this branch of science could spark an interest that lasts a lifetime. If you are a non-driving student with an interest in astronomy, let your parents know about these events. These events are designed to help fuel your interest in astronomy and expose you to the wonders of the night sky and the hobby of amateur astronomy! Parents are welcome to attend too!

The events will be held regardless of weather on the following evenings and observing will take place weather permitting on the following dates from 7 to 9 PM:

  • TBA

A "resident expert" from the society will give a presentation and show a video on the topic of the day. Some topics include how to observe the night sky, telescope and binocular care, deep sky objects, solar system astronomy, and many other topics. Special observing challenges like a "Messier Marathon" may also be scheduled. Following the classroom session, and weather permitting, we will do some observing with one or more of ASH's large telescopes.

Directions to the Naylor Astronomical Center are available online. Please use parking lights only while driving up the observatory driveway after dark. Upon arrival visitors are requested to sign in at the Asper Administration Building, the first structure on the hill.

The Astronomical Society of Harrisburg is a non-profit organization and welcomes donations to cover the costs of keeping the observatory open to the public. More information about the society and how to apply for membership, is available on our website
