Capital Campaign:

Implementation of Phase I and 2A Nearing Completion!
The 14" LX200GPS telescope has been received by the society, see pictures here. Ground has also been broken on the new observatory, which will feature the 14" SCT and the 10.5" Maksutov-Cassegrain and it should be completed by Spring of '04. Phase II of our Capital Campaign is rolling forward, and we are awaiting completion of Phase 2A of the Capital Campaign! Phase 2A's goal is to remount our 12.5" Cave Newtonian Telescope. The mount has been ordered and we are awaiting its arrival! We still must raise a large amount of money to make the expansion of our Administration Building reality. The expansion of our Administration Building is the only remaining long-term goal approved by the society. With your help, this will be possible!
Information

Horsehead Nebula With the 50th anniversary of the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg about two years away, the Society is planning a significant addition to our observing facilities at the Edward L. Naylor Astronomical Center. We hope to construct a new observatory building and purchase the necessary telescope and equipment dedicated to CCD imaging and state-of-the-art video imaging under Phase I of the Capital Campaign. That Phase has been funded! Under Phase II we hope to expand our Asper Administration Building and remount the society's 12.5" Cave Newtonian telescope.

With the CCD Observatory in place, the society will be able to participate in a greater variety of research projects, and provide unique services to the public. Although ASH is a private organization, we have always tried to be a valuable resource for the community. From our weekly public observing nights in the summer months to special programs for students, scouts, and other groups, education and outreach remain a significant part of our mission.

We can make this project succeed, but to do so we will need to raise about $10,000 to complete Phase I of the Capital Campaign (update, Phase I has been completed, Please Support Phase II!). Since membership dues and donations are our only source of funding, we need your help to reach this goal.

Phase II of the Capital Campaign is currently ongoing. Phase II includes raising approximately $20,000.00 to remount the Society's 12.5" Cave Newtonian Telescope and expanding the Society's Asper Administration Building.

We are accepting tax-deductible donations in any denomination. However, we have 3 recommended levels for individuals and families: $50.00, $100.00, and $150.00. For $150.00 your name will be placed on a plaque which will be placed in the observatory when it is completed.

We also welcome corporate donations, which are tax deductible, to make this project possible. Your company may donate in any denomination, but we do have a suggested $500.00 corporate donation level. For a $500.00 corporate donation, your company name will be placed on the plaque in the new observatory when it is completed.

Your gift can be made online using PayPal by clicking the "Make a Donation" button or by check or money order made out to the "Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, PA, Inc." and mailed to:

If you would like to make your contribution in monthly payments, you may email us your pledge to support the campaign. Please include the total dollar value of your pledge and your payment schedule. (All pledges are on the honor system and ASH will not be sending invoices or reminders.)

Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to advancing amateur astronomy in the Harrisburg area with your help!
