Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Inc.
Founded 1955

2011 Schedule
The following public observing nights have been scheduled at Naylor Observatory:
March 27th
April 24th
May 7th
May 8th
Every Sunday in June, July and August
September 4th
October 2nd
November 13th
Please note, there is no public observing on June 5 due to the Cherry Springs Star Party.
The Astronomical Society of Harrisburg is a non-profit organization and requests a $3-$4 donation per person from those attending a public observing session, that's less than the cost of a movie, and the show we give is truly out of this world! Your donation will help cover the costs of opening the observatory to the public and allow us to continue to provide exciting observing opportunities and educational programs to the community as we have since 1955. The observatory is solely funded on public donations and membership dues; thank you for your support! All parties are required to sign-in at the first building on the hill upon arrival at the observatory; you may give your donation there.

Important Information
If it looks like it's going to be cloudy, you are advised to call the observatory 30 minutes prior to start of the session to see if it will still be held. We cannot look through the clouds, so don't plan on us observing if it is cloudy. The Observatory's phone number is (717) 938-6041.
Please be careful of deer in the area
Please note NO SMOKING and No Alcoholic Beverages are permitted on observatory grounds, you may however smoke in your car. Due to insurance reasons pets are not permitted to be brought to the observatory by members of the public at public events, this excludes service animals. If you require any assistance while at the observatory, please feel free to ask any of the members manning the telescopes or buildings.
Please turn your headlights off (use your parking lights) when entering the observatory. If your vehicle is equipped with daytime running lights please arrive prior to sunset and park at the lower end of the driveway.
Bring an extra layer of warm clothing. Most people usually come unprepared and get cold fast. Don't be one of them, the longer you stay the more amazing objects you will see!
If you must bring a flashlight, please use one with a red filter.
Yes, we do have a restroom on site.

Private Parties
If you would like to arrange a private Star Party (Group Session) we may be able to accommodate you. Please contact the President of ASH

Accessibility
While observing with our larger telescopes frequently requires climbing one or two steps up a ladder, we are currently working on a pilot project to test equipment and procedures that will allow us to provide an enjoyable observing experience to individuals with limited mobility. Please contact President of ASH to see if we can accommodate your needs.mailto:snidermt3zp@mac.com?subject=Group%20visit%20to%20the%20Observatoryshapeimage_2_link_0
